Preventative Health Care as a Financial Strategy
At Baird, we believe that good health and sound financial planning are deeply connected. By aligning healthy habits with thoughtful financial strategies, we help clients take a more holistic approach to planning for the years ahead, focusing on resilience, independence, and long‑term confidence. Preventative health care such as staying active, managing stress, and prioritizing routine care all play an important role in protecting not only physical wellbeing, but in long‑term financial stability as well. When individuals take steps to support their health early, they may reduce future medical expenses, preserve earning potential, and maintain greater flexibility throughout retirement
How YOU Can Implement Healthier Habits
Small, consistent health choices can have a meaningful impact over time. Whether it’s prioritizing movement, managing stress, or focusing on preventive care, healthier habits support not only physical wellbeing but also long‑term financial stability. By taking a proactive approach to health, you may reduce future medical costs, protect your earning potential, and help keep long‑term financial plans on track. Thoughtful health decisions today can support greater flexibility, independence, and confidence in your financial future.
Physical Activity and Mobility
Staying active and maintaining mobility are key components of long‑term health and independence. Regular movement supports strength, balance, and flexibility, which can help reduce the risk of injury and support an active lifestyle as we age. Prioritizing physical activity today can play an important role in maintaining quality of life and confidence in the years ahead.
Nutrition and Healthy Habits
Everyday habits, including nutrition, can have a meaningful impact on overall well-being. Thoughtful choices around what and how we eat support energy levels, resilience, and long‑term health. Building sustainable, balanced habits over time helps lay the foundation for a healthier future and may reduce the likelihood of unexpected health‑related challenges.
Sleep and Recovery
Rest and recovery are often overlooked, yet they are essential to both physical and mental health. Quality sleep supports focus, stress management, immune function, and overall vitality. Making time for recovery helps the body and mind recharge, supporting clearer decision‑making and greater well‑being over the long term.
How the South Hills Office is Staying Active
Wellness is part of our culture at the South Hills branch. Through movement, preventative health, and daily habits, our team focuses on proactive choices that support long‑term well‑being.
Shannon Barry, Branch Manager
As a cancer survivor, Shannon takes his health seriously and believes strongly in prevention. He explains, “When sickness comes calling, it becomes all consuming. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure!” That mindset shapes how he approaches both his physical and mental well‑being. To stay healthy, Shannon takes an intentional approach by tracking key wellness metrics using his Oura Ring and finding meaningful ways to stay active with his family. One of his favorite activities is walking a few holes on the golf course with his three sons. He also prioritizes mental clarity through journaling, which helps him stay focused, prepared, and present in his work.
“I view my health as another one of my ‘asset classes’, I nurture it like a bodily addition to my portfolio. I workout almost every day and use the Oura Ring to track my activity, readiness, and sleep. One of my favorite activities is walking a few holes on a golf course with my three sons, and I journal frequently to help me align my thoughts and daily activities. I feel that this helps to focus my daily tasks and to show up for my clients and my Baird associates well prepared and ready to engage.”
Mia Fischetti, Client Assistant
Amanda Riisen, Client Assistant
Amanda stays active by getting out on her bike whenever she can, using the time to clear her head and recharge. Biking allows her to enjoy the outdoors while challenging herself physically. As a type 1 diabetic, physical activity is especially important. Staying active helps her to maintain more stable blood sugar levels and overall balance.
Bob Kerber, Financial Advisor
Bob is a running enthusiast in his free time. Over the years, he has competed in a variety of races, including 5Ks and 10Ks, and even ran in his second half marathon in the 2026 Pittsburgh race. He trains two to three times a week, and this routine plays a major role in how he shows up every day for his clients.
"Running makes me feel like I can tackle difficult things in life and hopefully elongate my life span."
Rico Roberto, Financial Advisor
One of Rico’s favorite quotes is, “if you don’t make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness.” This sentiment drives him to stay consistent in the gym every morning before starting his day, where he works out alongside his wife. There, he finds camaraderie and accountability within the gym community, making it easier to show up each day. He believes that by prioritizing his health, he's able to be the best version of himself for his clients.
"I’m a big believer that you must take care of yourself before you can competently help others. I need to be the best and strongest version of myself so I can be there for my clients, family, and friends. Exercise, or even a walk around the neighborhood, is a proven way to reduce stress and improve mood. Adopting a strategy for stress reduction is critical to living a long, healthy life."
